Producer and supplier of onion sets
VAB Agri Trade produces and supplies first-year onion sets. We grow a large portion of our own onions, so we know exactly what each variety has to offer. This allows us to provide you with expert advice on which variety best suits your growing goals.
Our onions are grown throughout the Nederland to minimize risks. Together with our cultivation specialists, we select disease-free plots. This way, we know exactly where our onion sets grow best and how we can guarantee you the highest quality.
Breeds & certification
Our onion sets are supplied with the correct certifications
All onion sets supplied by VAB Agri Trade are NAK-Horticulture certified. This means they have been inspected during cultivation and processing and therefore meet the highest quality standards. The seeds for growing our onion sets are also sourced from expert seed suppliers with the appropriate certifications.
We offer not only onion sets we've grown ourselves, but also varieties from other growers. We're a dealer for these companies. This allows us to supply a wide range of varieties. So there's always an onion variety available that's perfectly suited to your soil type, region, and growing objective.

Choosing the right variety is essential for maximizing your crop yields. We're happy to help. Besides supplying planting materials, we also provide tailored advice. With our years of experience, we can advise you on the right variety choice for your growing goals. We offer various varieties:
- Wintering varieties: These varieties are tolerant of cold conditions and can survive the winter months, including Troy, Shakespeare, Senshyu Yellow.
- Yellow onion varieties: These are onion varieties that have a yellow skin and are planted in the spring, including Forum, Jetset, Jagro, Goblin, Crusado, Griffon, Contado, Cupido, Corrado, Centurion, Stuttgarter Riesen, Sturon, Setton and Hercules.
- Red onion varieties: These are onion varieties with red skin, including Red Radiant, Red Karmen, Red Baron, Akado, Red Light , and Rad Ray.
- White onion varieties: These are white-skinned onion varieties often used for export, including the Snowballvariety.

Senhyu Yellow
Senhyu Yellow is an early winter onion. It's best planted in the second half of October. It's a yellow variety and has a round, oval shape.
Shakespeare
This yellow winter onion is a little later than the Senhyu Yellow, but it produces a higher yield and better quality. Here too, it's best to plant it in the second half of October. The onions are round and have a medium neck.
Troy
You can plant Troy in the fall as an autumn onion, but also in the spring as a spring onion. As an autumn onion, Troy is the same or slightly later than Shakespeare, has a slightly thicker neck, and produces a slightly higher yield. The quality of this onion is also good.
Stuttgart Giants
This yellow onion set is the standard onion set in many countries. It is characterized by its flat shape. This variety is grown in the Nederland but is primarily exported to Southeast Europe, where this onion shape is often still the local standard. It also remains popular among home gardeners.
Griffon
The Griffon is an early, productive yellow onion plant. It is planted between February and mid-April. This onion is a good early-season onion and has a high, round shape.
Forum
The Forum is a very early variety, planted in spring between February and mid-April. It has a beautiful, round shape and good quality. It's a high-yielding variety with a thin neck.
Crusado
The Crusado is a relatively newcomer to the early segment. It's a relatively early variety with good quality and yield potential. It also has a strong root system and good skin quality.
Goblin
A very early onion plant, planted between February and mid-April. The onions are beautifully round and have a thin neck. They keep better than winter onions, but are not intended for long-term storage.
Jet set
This is an early, productive, and beautifully round variety. The combination of earliness and good skin quality makes this onion suitable for export to overseas destinations. This variety is also available as an organic version.
Jagro
The Jagro is an early and highly productive variety. It grows easily and coarsely. This onion is suitable for direct marketing and has a bronze-yellow color.
Contado
The Contado is the slightly later sibling of the Crusado and is a high-quality variety with a good skin. It's a good variety for harvesting between the early and late harvest periods. It has a beautiful, slender neck.
Centurion
This mid-early variety, with its high productivity and uniform shape, is a well-known name in the mid-early segment. It boasts good skin quality and good bolting tolerance.
Cupido
The Cupido is a beautiful variety in the later segment. It is slightly later than its brother, the Contado, and has a less strong skin. However, it does have a uniform spherical shape, making it very suitable for industrial processing.
Corrado
The Corrado is later than the Contado, but produces a uniform batch of onions with an average neck and a relatively higher yield. The Corrado is a long-day hybrid variety.
Sturon
The Sturon is the most popular variety in professional onion cultivation. It offers good quality and relatively good storability for industrial use, for example. Sturon also has good yield potential. It has a medium neck and is popular with both amateur and professional growers, both domestically and internationally. This is partly due to its excellent foliage development and strong root system.
Setton
The Setton is a beautifully uniform variety in the late segment. It excels in skin quality, root system, and yield. This variety also stores relatively well and, thanks to its round shape, is suitable for industrial use.
Hercules
This variety is well-suited for the processing industry due to its highly rounded, uniform shape and high productivity. It also lends itself to long-term storage and has good bolting tolerance.
Red Radiant
Red Radiant is an early variety of red onions planted in spring. The best time to plant is from mid-February to mid-April. Red Radiant has a thin neck and ripens early, but is not suitable for storage.
Red Karmen
This variety is popular with both hobby and professional growers. It's a robust variety with a beautiful red color. These are round to flattened onions in the mid-early segment. These onions can be treated to prevent bolting.
Red Baron
The Red Baron is one of the most well-known varieties in the red onion collection. It's a high-yielding red onion set that stores fairly well. The onions are round to flat in shape, have a strong skin, and a beautiful red to purple color.
Akado
This is a relatively new variety in the red onion segment. It has new characteristics, including bolt tolerance, making it one of the few red onion sets that doesn't require any preparation. The variety falls into the mid-early segment and has a good skin and a thin neck.
Red Light
A relatively early red hybrid onion set in the segment with good yield and quality. The variety ripens uniformly and has a beautiful color. This variety is also available as an organic version.
Red Ray
The Red Ray is later than the Red Light, but produces a beautiful, high-quality onion with a good skin and deep red color. It's also a productive variety thanks to a strong root system.
Snowball
This is the most well-known white onion variety. It's a round to highly rounded model in the mid-early segment and suitable for the fresh market. White onions are sweeter and milder in flavor.
